Mike McLaughlin, Isabelle Bertrand, Enzo Lombi and Caroline Johnston – CSIRO Land and Water. Bob Holloway and Dot Brace from SARDI (Minnipa).
The SAGIT project, which commenced in 2000 and finished in 2002, aimed to identify the main soil chemistry factors responsible for improved phosphorus efficiency using liquid fertilisers for cereal production on the highly calcareous soils of South Australia. The team also planned to develop new P-fertilisation strategies to improve phosphorus nutrition in cereals on the highly calcareous soils of South Australia. Industry Partners: Wesfarmers CSBP Ltd

South Australian Grains Industry Trust Project Team: The project team comprises Mike McLaughlin and David Chittleborough (University of Adelaide) and Enzo Lombi (CSIRO Land and Water).

The project is due to commence early in 2004. Despite posing significant challenges for crop P nutrition, alkaline soils are widespread in Australia and their agricultural use accounts for a significant fraction of the crop production nationwide.
